Le M4A2 75 dry Dragon fait plaisir à Zaloga
Dragon M4A2 test shot
September 7 2006 at 12:54 PM Steve Zaloga OK fellow Shermanoholics, I just got in a partial test shot of the Dragon M4A2 a few minutes ago. Shermanoholics will be pleased!
The hull is all new as to be expected and real nice. Good crisp lines, nice weld bead detail, good detail around the fuel caps, proper side plate edges. The hatches are the best yet in plastic including really nice little springs.
What really surprised me was the redone turret. For example, Dragon provides both early and late E5721 gun shields (the bit behind the mantlet) Nobody has done the late one in plastic as far as I know and it is the more common type on M34A1 gun mounts as far as I know (at least for US Army ETO Shermans). The rest of the detail is much more state of the art than their past Sherman turrets. For example, the turret searchlight is very well detailed and the vertical support is delicately shaped and not just a blob. A lot of the standard bits like the two piece hatch have been redone with very subtle casting marks. The periscope covers are all separate and more delicated than in previous Shermans.
The suspension is pretty much like their earlier VVS sprues but with a lot of subtle little changes. The track skids are thinner, and there are even separate bolts. There is a packing piece for the stamped idler. The DML stamped road wheels are currently my favorite, even over the Tasca wheels for the simple but often unoticed fact that the mold line is on the edge of the wheel, not down the center, which makes cleaning them up a breeze.
